A young guy from Ontario moved to Alberta and went to a big "everything under the roof" department store looking for a job. The manager says "Do you have any sales experience?"

The kids says, "Yeah, I was a good salesman back home in Toronto."

Well, the boss liked the kid, so he gave him the salesman job. "You start tomorow, I'll come down after we close and see how you did."

His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down, "How many sales did you make today?"

The kid says "ONE"

The boss says, 'JUST ONE?!! Our good salesmen average 20 to 30 sales a day! How much was the sale for?"

The kids says "101,237.64"

The boss says "101,237.64!!? What the HECK did you sell?"

The kid says, "First I sold him a small fish hook, then I sold him a medium fish hook, then I sold him a larger fish hook, then I sold him a new fishing rig, then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down at the river, so I told him he was gonna need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him that twin engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4x4 Expedition."

The boss said, "A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a BOAT AND A TRUCK?!"

The kids says, "No, he came in here to buy a box of tampons for his wife and I said, "Well, your weekend is shot, you might as well go fishing!"

Isn't that a good salesman?

Exercise your right to do those things you can't do, because 'can't' is really just a way of saying 'I haven't tried it' or 'I won't'. Typically, the reasons why we can't are as simple as being afraid of possibly failing, while the potential of stretching the human mechanism is far too great to not try. We must attempt the seemingly impossible to truly grow, we must do things we can't do in order to get to do them.

"I am always doing things I can't do, that's how I get to do them."

-Pablo Picasso

Providence of Obstacles

The truest response to our desires is the opportunity to overcome obstacles. We pray for wisdom and are provided problems to solve, we pray for strength and are given a weight to carry, we pray for anything and we are confronted with the obstacle through which we will achieve our goal. In this way, obstacles are our greatest asset.

It is our choice accept and embrace obstacles in our lives as opportunities. Of course an obstacle is difficult, strenuous and/or tumultuous; if it weren't, would anything be worth it?

"We are built to conquer environment, solve problems, achieve goals, and we find no real satisfaction or happiness in life without obstacles to conquer and goals to achieve."

-Maxwell Maltz

The Poor

One day a father and his rich family took his son to a trip to the country with the firm purpose to show him how poor people can be. They spent a day and a night in the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"

"Very good Dad!"

"Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked.

"Yeah!"

"And what did you learn?"

The son answered, "I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden, they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the garden, they have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard, they have a whole horizon." When the little boy was finishing, his father was speechless. His son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are!"

Things Happen for a Reason

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further. So to help the butterfly, He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon.
The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract intime. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of it's life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings.
It never was able to fly. What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. We could never fly.

copied the following from my godsis's blog.. motivating..

Me: Why are we constantly unhappy?
God: Your today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday.
You are worrying because you are analyzing.
Worrying has become your habit.
That's why you are not happy.
Me: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty?
God: Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.
Me: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty...
God: Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.
Me: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer?
God: Diamond cannot be polished without friction.
Gold cannot be purified without fire.
Good people go through trials, but don't suffer.
With that experience their life becomes better, not bitter.
Me: You mean to say such experience is useful?
God: Yes. In every term, experience is a hard teacher.
She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.
Me: But still, why should we go through such tests?
Why can't we be free from problems?
God: Problems are purposeful roadblocks offering beneficial lessons to enhance mental strength.
Inner strength comes from struggle and endurance, not when you are free from problems.
Me: Frankly in the midst of so many problems, we don't know where we are
heading...
God: If you look outside you will not know where you are heading.
Look inside.
Looking outside, you'll dream.
Looking inside, you'll awaken.
Eyes provide sight.
Heart provides insight.
Me: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more than moving in the
right direction. What should I do?
God: Success is a measure as decided by others.
Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you.
Knowing the road ahead is more satisfying than knowing you rode ahead.
You work with the compass.
Let others work with the clock.
Me: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?
God: Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go.
Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.
Me: What surprises you about people?
God: When they suffer they ask, "why me?"
When they prosper, they never ask "Why me?"
Everyone wishes to have truth on their side, but few want to be on the side of the truth.
Me: Sometimes I ask, "Who am I, why am I here?" I can't get the answer.
God: Seek not to find who you are, but to determine who you want to be.
Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here.
Create it.
Life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation.
Me: How can I get the best out of life?
God: Face your past without regret.
Handle your present with confidence.
Prepare for the future without fear.
